Professional and Reliable Stump Removal Services
Hi, I’m Graeme, the owner and main operator of Rhino Grinding Ltd. You’ll usually see me on site, though occasionally one of my trusted contractors may be the one removing your stumps. I’m a fully qualified arborist who, after 10 years of running my own tree surgery business, decided it was time to keep both feet firmly on the ground. Wanting to stay within the arboricultural industry and maintain the many friendships and business relationships I had built, I launched Rhino Grinding Ltd in 2015.
Over the years, the company has grown, and we now provide a dedicated, professional tree stump removal service across Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex, Surrey, and Oxfordshire. With bases in Newbury and Southampton, we’re perfectly positioned to cover a wide area throughout the South of England.
All of our stump-grinding operators are fully qualified, bringing over 20 years of combined experience and extensive knowledge gained from removing thousands of stumps and root systems. We work to the highest safety standards, using CAT scanners, safety screens, and the appropriate level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). We also hold £5 million of Public Liability Insurance (a copy is available on request).

How Stump Grinding Works
After a tree is removed, the remaining stump can be an eyesore and a hazard in your garden or yard. This is where stump grinding comes in—a fast, efficient solution that removes the visible stump and helps reclaim your space.
Stump grinding involves using a specialised machine called a stump grinder, which has a rotating cutting wheel with sharp teeth. The grinder is positioned over the stump, and the cutting wheel slowly chips away the wood, reducing the stump to small wood chips. This process continues until the stump is ground down to below ground level, making it easy to cover with soil, grass, or landscaping materials.
The benefits of stump grinding go beyond aesthetics. Removing the stump prevents new shoots from sprouting, reduces the risk of pests such as termites or ants, and eliminates a tripping hazard. The process is relatively quick, and most stumps can be ground entirely away in a matter of minutes, depending on their size and root systems.
After grinding, the leftover wood chips can often be used as mulch in your garden, providing a practical and eco-friendly bonus.
Whether you’re preparing your yard for new landscaping, building projects, or simply want a cleaner, safer outdoor space, stump grinding is a reliable method to remove unwanted stumps efficiently.
